Dear Sir/Ma,

It is with a saddened heart that I write this to you, after thinking it all through and looking forward to what's the next step in my life. Is it a crime to choose a state university as one's preferred place of study?! We went on strike in 2012 for good 6months due to non-payment of salary and somehow you manipulated it and we moved on. We had series of unnecessary breaks and threats of strikes through the following years till 2016 when hell was let loose due to your nonchalance towards the school management, a massive  9 months strike was embarked on after the management lied to us that they are giving us indefinite break until they officially start the strike for the same reason of 'Non - Payment' of salary for workers. Even we students in our 'no-choice' way have succumbed  to using 7-10years in university for  a 5years course! All our mates, sisters and





brothers, even our junior ones have graduated and some are already in service from other Universities but we are still grounded in the same level over the years. Sir/ma, we understand that you're the constituted authorities in charge of the school but please please please We are wards of some parents out here that are suffering , working helplessly and effortlessly to see us graduate and be successful so we could give back to them. I appeal to you in the name of whatever you people are worshipping , we can't go on another strike! No No No, you can't do that at all! It is better you find solution as soon as possible, stop unnecessary outings and ceremonies and pay up salaries.

USMAN DANFODIYO UNIVERSITY, SOKOTO (UDUS) IS SET TO MOBILIZE GRADUATES FOR BATCH A NYSC--DEAN, STUDENT AFFAIRS

-Non-readiness of notification of results does not imply non-readiness for NYSC mobilisation-- Dean, Student Affairs stressed.
- Filling of mobilisation form is now online





The Dean, Students Affairs Division of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Prof. A.A. Aliero on Thursday, 6th April, 2017 unearthed the relentless efforts of the management to ensure that students who graduated during the 2015/2016 academic session are not left out in the NYSC mobilization exercise for Batch A, 2017. This he made known in his office while speaking with the President, National Association of Campus Journalists, UDUS, Fakunle Saheed in reaction to the going viral report stating the non-readiness of the university to mobilize corp member for Batch A.

In his effort to clear the air of any rumour and speculations, the Dean took with him the campus journalists president to the center where officials of the division were collating details of prospective corps members who have been cleared by the senate. "The fact that notification of results are not yet ready does not imply the non-readiness of the university's management to mobilise corp members for Batch A. The management is working assiduously to ensure that graduates whose results have gained senate's approval are mobilised for the Batch 'A' NYSC exercise", he reiterated.




He further stated that "coming to school to fill mobilisation forms is an out-of-date style which has been replaced by an online mobilisation platform, therefore, filling of online mobilisation forms will be made available as soon as the portal is opened".

He however called on concerned students to remain calm as he described the controversial report as unfortunate and discarded all claims affiliating the news to his division. "As i have said to you at all time, finding out the real source of any news is cardinal to news reporting, it is however, unfortunate that the news broke out of mere speculation. For those touched by this news, we apologise for inconveniences caused, and i urge them to discard the news and consider it an information that has no base", he posited.




On a final note, he stressed that collection of notification of result is only required at the camp, which the university's management is trying its possible best to ensure it is ready before the time...

Police arrest son who got friend to kill his 70-year-old mother

The Police in Kano have arrested a middle-aged man, Muntari Umar, for allegedly prodding his friend into killing his mum.

A statement by Kano police spokesman, DSP Magaji Majiya, on Thursday said that Umar’s friend, Saleh Abdullahi, who allegedly killed the 70-year-old woman, was also arrested.

Majiya said that the two suspects were arrested for allegedly conspiring to kill the old woman.

According to him, Abdullahi allegedly killed 70-year-old Hajiya Zinab-Abu on the prodding of Umar, her biological son.

“Based on investigation, Umar was found to have conspired with his friend to stab his elderly mother to death after having a heated disagreement with her,” the police said.

According to him, Umar, of Fegin Liman in Kano, was said to have been irked by his mother’s refusal to grant him permission to lease his farm.

Majiya said the two suspects would be prosecuted once the ongoing investigation was completed.

USMANU DANFODIYO UNIVERSITY, SOKOTO (UDUS) GRADUANDS BEG MANAGEMENT OVER RESULTS DELAY

The 2016 graduands of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto have expressed their sadness over the delay in release of their notification of results which would enable them proceed for their youth service.





The graduands who after some eight months of fulfilling the requirements of graduation are yet to be issued notification of results, let alone been awarded certificate, took to their various social media platforms to express their grievances. They described the delay as pathetic for a school functioning in the 21century.

Ridwan Ibrahim who studied Law expressed his unhappiness about the delay of results by the school management saying,"The delay has cost us this year's law school and service for those who are not willing to attend law school.We can also not secure any jobs because most of the employers request for our certificates." He further lamented having studied Law for six years instead of five years due to the ASUU strike and still having to wait this long to get his notification.





Olawumi Yasin Muhammad, who is one of the affected students said; I do not know the logic behind the delay, but it is good they release us from this bondage".

Alabidun Sarat, who studied Applief Chemistry, said she need to apply for scholarships and master degree programme but she has not been able to go about it because of the notification delay. "Even if I will not serve now. I can at least further my education",she said.

Another affected student, Ibrahim Hamman who studied Geography said; The school should release the results in batches, if at all their reason for delaying the result is to release the notification once and for all. He also suggested that the management should embrace technology as he made reference to his cousin who graduated at Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin in August 2016, received his notification of results and got mobilised by November of the same year to serve with stream 2. "Danfodiyo can do better than that",he concluded.





A student who graduated in the 2012/2013 academic session, Attahiru Ahmad Musa said, the long term delay of students result was not a new thing in UDUS. Past graduates had to wait for almost a year or more before getting their certificates.

The Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Adamu Aliero while responding to campus journalist on the issue enjoined the graduands to be patient and that the notification of results will be out soon. "We are aware that we may not be able to mobilise our students to serve in the Batch A for this year anymore, but to much degree of certainty they will be mobilized in the next batch",he said. However, he never stated the reason for the delay in releasing the students notification of results.

WORLD NEWS: Colombia mudslide: 254 dead, over 100 missing

At least 254 people have been killed and around 400 more injured, the military said, after torrential rains Friday night caused three rivers surrounding Mocoa in Putumayo province to overflow, sending a stream of mud through the city. The Red Cross put the death toll at 234, and said that 158 people were still missing. Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos declared a sate of emergency and told reporters at the scene that the death toll could climb.




"The first thing I want to say is that my heart, our hearts, the hearts of all Colombians are with the victims of this tragedy," he said. "We don't know yet where they are. Many people are coming to us saying, 'My son is missing, my father is missing, my mother is missing.'"He said that the city had experienced in one night around a third of the rainfall that it should over the span of a month, blaming the disaster on climate change.Heavy rains, high levels of deforestation, informal housing and dense human populations are some factors that can leave communities vulnerable to landslides, . Aerial footage of the site showed some rooftops poking above the muddy deluge that flattened other homes, bridges and highways. Power and water supplies to the city have been cut by the disaster, and the hospital system has shut down, firefighters say.Gabriel Umaña, a spokesman for the Colombian Red Cross, told CNN that 300 families had been displaced and more than two dozen homes had been flattened. Many were sound asleep when the torrent of mud hit their neighborhoods, and witnesses said the the sludge flowed so fast that they had to run for their lives. 



Many people searched through the debris for their possessions after the mudslide destroyed their homes. "Around 11, 12 o'clock (on Friday), there was a huge storm, a lot of water. I got up because it sounded so heavy, the sound of the rocks. Everyone (was shocked)," one man at the site said, Reuters reported.Another wearing yellow rubber boots stood on some rocks as a river of mud streamed by. "Nobody has given me news. Nobody, nobody. No one from my house or my family. I am at the will of my God. I have nothing. Nothing to eat, nowhere to sleep. These clothes were given to me," he said. Residents pored over a list of missing people pinned outside a family welfare center. One listed only children, some as young as 2."We have lost a baby, who has gone missing, and the rest is as you can see. A little baby, we can't find him anywhere," said one woman, wiping away tears.More than 1,000 soldiers and national police officers are involved in the rescue, and they are facing enormous challenges. "The difficulties we are facing are that it is still raining in the region and the (mudslide) turned up a considerable amount of land. There are mobility issues on almost 80% of the roads, and where the road ends, it is three hours to the place where the (mudslide) took place," a police spokesman told reporters. Photos released by Colombia's military showed rescuers carrying old women and children over downed, mud-caked trees and homes.

BREAKING NEWS: Fresh Clash in Ife North Leaves 10 People Injured

Few days after the violent clash between Hausa and Yoruba communities in Ile-Ife which claimed many lives and property destroyed, another communal clash broke out in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun during which no fewer than ten persons sustained injuries.

The fresh clash Saturday Vanguard gathered was between the people of Ipetumodu and Asipa in Ife north area of the State.



The crisis according to an eyewitness account was said to have started on Wednesday evening shortly after alleged misunderstanding that broke out aftermath of inter house sports football competition in the Community High School Ipetumodu, not far away from Asipa.

The fight allegedly involved youths from both communities. It was further gathered that some unidentified youths took the advantage of the face off between the students and set ablaze the popular Akinola Market in Asipa a development that escalated the crisis between the two communities.

It will be recalled that the establishment of Akinola Market on the disputed portion of land had sparked off crisis last year in the area before the state government intervention.



It was further learnt that gun shots were fired into the air to heighten tension in the area. Though some policemen had been drafted to the area to maintain law and order, it was gathered that no fewer than ten persons sustained injuries.

One of the traditional chiefs who did not want his name in print laid the blame on Asipa community alleging that the other community turned a mere school riot to community clash to burn the market.

He also alleged that this was not the first time that such attack would be carried out against his people. But a leader of Asipa community, Mr Julius Ogerinde denied the allegation saying that they were aggrieved because of the government white paper on the disputed land which favoured the other community.



“They only use the avenue of the Inter house Sport competition to perpetrate their grievances and three of our people were shot”.

When the Police Public Relation Officer, Mrs. Folashade Odoro was contacted she confirmed the clash and said the policemen had been drafted to the area to maintain law and order. She said that normalcy has since returned to the area.

LATEST NEWS: Catholic Church Loses Top Member In Auto Crash

The Catholic Church on Sunday confirmed the death of Rev. Sister

Christiana Umeadi, Health Coordinator, in an auto crash.

In a statement signed by Reverend Father Christian Anyanwu, Director of Communications, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), in Abuja, said Umeadi, until her death was a member of Sokoto Diocese.

Anyanwu said that Umeadi who was returning to her station after participating in mass cerebrospinal meningitis immunisation, was involved in an auto crash at Bakura, in Zamfara State.

He said that the medical team had covered several parts of Sokoto diocese for the immunisation in the last one month and as the outbreak got worse the health team intensified their efforts.

The states they covered, he said, include: Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara and Kebbi.

Anyanwu explained that Umeadi led her team to Zamfara State for the immunisation exercise in March, where they were billed to spend just a day in Gusau town.

Anyanwu noted that her remains had since been deposited in the morgue at the Usmanu DanFodio Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) Sokoto.

He said that her immediate family, the Dominican Congregation, the Diocese of Sokoto and all her patients were left in utter shock and disbelief.

“We all resign to the will of God and trusting that our Sister will rise again at the resurrection,’’ he said.

Until her death, Umeadi was the Assistant Prioress General of the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena, Gusau, and Zamfara State. 

The church has yet to announce a date for her burial.

Health officials reported over 100 cases of cerebrospinal meningitis in Sokoto State with five deaths.

Officials also reported no fewer than 80 people have lost their lives to meningitis in Zamfara in the last two months, the state Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Suleiman Gummi has said.

Meningitis had earlier killed at least three students in a Secondary School in Maradun Local Government Area of the state.

Severe heats occasioned by intense solar radiation and living in congested apartments are parts of what medical experts believe are causing meningitis.

ASUU Threatens To Go On Strike In July

ASUU National President Biodun Ogunyemi hinted at the strike action during a news conference held at the University of Abuja on Wednesday.

Contrary to the pledge made in January that there would be no strike action in the near future, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) announced that it could embark on a strike again in July over the non-payment of N128 billion arrears of allowances.

ASUU National President Biodun Ogunyemi hinted at the strike action during a news conference held at the University of Abuja on Wednesday.

According to him, the federal government owes academic staff in federal universities unpaid allowances of nearly N128 billion. Mr. Ogunyemi said that the ASUU insisted on a framework for paying any part of the “Earned Academic Allowances” (EAA) arrears.

He said the union has decided that the particular issue of the EAA cannot be meaningfully addressed unless it is within an agreed framework.

“Hence the National Executive Council (NEC) of the ASUU resolved that all outstanding arrears of EAA should be paid not later than July 2017,” Mr. Ogunyemi stated.

The president also observed the non-release of the Operational Licensing of Nigerian Universities Pension Management Company (NUPEMCO).

Mr. Ogunyemi said that the company had met the minimum requirements for registration as a Pension Fund Administrator (PFA).

He said that the failure of PENCOM to release the operational license of NUPEMCO as a PFA had created the feeling of insecurity and loss of confidence among retirees in the system.

“The PFA cartel appears determined to abort the process of NUPEMCO licensing which started more than four years ago,” Mr. Ogunyemi said. This is against the right to choose, he added.

The president noted that the 2013 memorandum of understanding signed with the federal government on funding for the revitalization of public universities had not been released as agreed.

“The MoU stipulates that N200 billion would be released in 2013 for massive injection of funds to reposition Nigerian public universities for global competition.

“Thereafter, N220 billion is to be released for subsequent five years, adding up to N1.3 trillion by 2018, not a single kobo has been released up till date,” Mr. Ogunyemi said.

He concluded by announcing that the union’s decision has been communicated to the government.

I Was In The Same NYSC Camp With Dino Melaye - See My Certificate (Photo)

Senator Dino Melaye who is in the center of a certificate scandal has received support from some Nigerians who claimed to have served in the same NYSC camp with him in Kaduna.

The senator shared a copy of his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate which showed that he started the programme on 9th July 2000 and finished on 8th July 2001 following his graduation from Ahmadu Bello University ABU Zaria.



A twitter user has shared a copy of his original NYSC discharge certificate online in order to shed more light on some sketchy details on the certificate like the camp resumption date 9th July 2000 which was on a Sunday -an unofficial day (as NYSC camp resumes only on working days).

According to the twitter user whose own resumption date was 8th July (which was on Saturday -also an unofficial date), they resumed the camp on 10th, that’s Monday but the NYSC officials decided to date it 9th….
